Today's early bird prompt is to write about your favorite bird. Granted the gift of impeccable sight, He nests in an eyrie of incredible height. The king of birds by every right, His kingdom shrinks due to human blight. He is strong and powerful, not prone to fright. He kills for food, not to prove his might. The avian master of both fight and flight Makes grand the perch where he deigns to alight. A few years ago a bald eagle was brought into the school where I was teaching for an assembly. Now, I have touched a jaguar, held a python, and encountered a good number of God's beautifully dangerous creatures, but none had every inspired the awe and respect that seeing that eagle up close did. His talons, his beak, his eyes, his posture! He was so majestic, yet also somewhat terrifying. His head would snap around, not like someone looking in fear over their shoulder, but like a teacher snapping around to catch a student in his shenanigans. Anyway, this does NOT do him justice, but it's what came of today. We'll call it a warm-up! A bit of a cheesy poem for a bit of a cheesy prompt.
